POOLE Town are set to reject a bid from Eastleigh for star striker Charlie Austin, according to manager Tom Killick.

The teenage frontman hit the headlines after his goals helped Dolphins claim the Wessex League title in some style.

Austin’s scoring exploits did not go unnoticed, with a number of higher-level clubs monitoring his progress.

Of those, Conference South outfit Eastleigh have shown most interest and they demonstrated their desire to land the prolific frontman by lodging an offer last week.

But Tatnam chief Killick revealed that he expects the undisclosed bid, which is being considered by the club’s board, to be turned down.

“From my understanding, the offer will be rejected,” he told the Echo. “The ball will then be back in Eastleigh’s court.”

Austin earned a trial at AFC Bournemouth earlier in the season, while Bashley and AFC Totton are also thought to have shown an interest in the hot prospect.

Meanwhile, Killick has completed the signing of exciting winger Trefor Smith.

The wide man did not feature in Poole’s championship season as he was on a work placement in London. But he will resume his Dolphins career next term.

Killick said: “I’m very, very pleased to get him.

“He’s one of the best wide players in the area. He’s very exciting to watch and it will give an extra dimension to our attacking play.”

Veteran defender/midfielder Aaron Skelton, the former Luton and Colchester star, has also committed his future to Dolphins.
