BEN Dyson plundered a stunning century as Poole Town got their 2009 Dorset Premier League campaign off to a flying start against Weymouth.

Dyson’s majestic 118 set the tone for a one-sided encounter, with Kristian Wilson (21), Ben Edgehill and Badrul Alam all making sound contributions in Poole’s 211-8.

Weymouth’s Dan Hutchens bucked the trend with 5-42, which included a spell of 4-17 in 15 balls.

In reply Weymouth got off to the worst possible start when they slumped to 26-4 after eight overs (Martin Ford, 3-10), but a fifth-wicket stand of 59 between Vijay Mote (46) and Faraz ul Haq (25) gave the visitors hope.

However, Ford and John Fairless (2-31) did the damage with Weymouth falling 65 runs short.

  • Wayfarers’ new recruits Iain Griffiths (34) and Dean Elsworthy (32) put their side on the road to an 18-run victory over Blandford.

Sunil Sawney (3-38) and Dan Brockway (3-24) did the damage with the ball for the home side.

Blandford’s reply was dented from the off, however, as Leigh Dunham and Robbie Stammas both made early inroads and although Aaron Kendrick (45no) rallied, spinner Chris Wade’s spell of 3-28 ended any lingering hopes of victory.

  • Evergreen Raj Naik started this season as he finished the last by chipping in with a couple of vital wickets in Parley’s five-wicket triumph over Suttoners.

Naik (2-4), Tom Blackley (3-39) and Seb Binfield (2-29) helped restrict the visitors to 169 from their allocation, before Mark Elliott’s brutal 54 and Roshan Embalagama (52no from 37 balls) saw the hosts home with 15 overs to spare.

  • In the day’s other encounters, Broadstone toppled Stalbridge by five wickets and Wimborne and Colehill beat Dorchester by six wickets.
