WIMBORNE boss Alex Browne admitted he was pleased to get back to winning ways after a 2-1 derby triumph at New Milton.
Steve Whitcher, with a cracking 25-yarder, and Nathan Walker, with a far post header from a Scott Arnold corner, gave Magpies a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to go.
But Dominic Allen bagged an 88th-minute consolation for New Milton before Wimborne secured three points.
Browne said: “The back four played well, the two guys up front looked lively and the midfield passed the ball around nicely, so it was a pleasing performance.
“Steve’s goal was a great strike from 25 yards and Nathan scored with a great far post header which he’s been trying to do for a few weeks, so it was good.
“We’d lost two games on the trot and New Milton are a decent young side.
“It was not going to be easy to get a result so it was great to get backing to winning ways.”
Browne was impressed with midfielder John Wyatt on his Wimborne debut.
The boss said: “He does the basics very well. It was his first game and he came in and did fine.”
New Milton joint manager Andy Bye said: “We hit the post in the first-half when it was very much even-stevens.
“In the second-half we did okay, although their first goal was a great finish which you can’t do much about.
“But the second goal, we were a bit relaxed with our marking, and that one was crucial because it gave them a bit of a cushion.
“We came back and had some close efforts but you can’t give a top-five side a two-goal lead and still expect to get something out of games.”
