STRICKEN defender Joel Ward could be sidelined for up to eight weeks with ankle ligament damage.

The Portsmouth loanee was carried off on a stretcher in the early stages of Cherries' 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Dean Court on Saturday.

The injury, sustained after the defensive prospect landed awkwardly following an aerial challenge, now looks set to rule him out for the majority of Cherries' run-in.

It is a setback for Cherries boss Eddie Howe, who has seen Ward perform solidly at right-back since he took charge of first team affairs.
