Dorset Cricket beat Shropshire in NCCA Cluberly Championship

DORSET opened their NCCA Cluberly Championship Western Division Two campaign in dominant style over Shropshire.

The three match tie was over in just two days in WImborne as Dorset wrapped up the win with an innings and 40.

The win comes just 15 days after Luke Webb's side had defeated Shropshire in the National Counties Trophy final with slow left-armer Mo Abbas, who sat out that game, the match-winner this time.

On day one Shropshire had been put into bat and collapsed as six wickets went down for 24 - and their last four for just seven runs.

Abbas was the star man with the ball as he took 4-19 along with Connor Smith, sharing seven wickets and Shropshire, who where 106 for four at one stage, were dismissed for 130.

Captain Luke Webb made 42 in helping Dorset gain a first innings lead but they were only 20 ahead with five wickets down at the close of play, with Shropshire seamer Ben Roberts and off-spinner Charlie Home sharing four of the wickets.

Abbas followed up his four first innings wickets with another career-best – five for 31 – which gave him match figures of nine for 50.

Shropshire, who were shout out for 130 in their first innings, managed only seven more in their second with opener Seb Scott (33) the only batter to reach 30.

Earlier Dorset built scoreboard pressure by making 307 for nine in their first innings with Ed Ellis (87 not out) playing the key innings with excellent support from Ethan Baker (24) and Joe Carson (39).

Ellis and Carson added 78 for the eighth wicket with seamer George McCormick taking three for 42 for Shropshire.

Next up for Dorset is the T20 Super 12sthis Sunday when they Berkshire in the opening match at Wargrave with the losers playing Suffolk in the second match and the winners playing Suffolk in third and final match of the day.
