MIDFIELD maestro Ryan Christie has been voted your Micky Cave/Daily Echo AFC Bournemouth player of the season.

The Scot soared to victory in the vote among Echo readers – picking up 30 per cent of the 1,500 votes cast.

It is a well-deserved reward for the Scot, who has been excellent this season and was crucial to so much of the good work that Andoni Iraola’s Cherries have done this season.

Often underrated, Christie’s energy in the centre of midfield was vital in Iraola’s press, and his passing range was key in getting Bournemouth moving forward in transition – an area where they have been so deadly this campaign.

He opened the scoring as Bournemouth beat the Gunners 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium in October, smashing into the top corner from an excellent corner routine.

Christie’s second goal of the season made it 2-0 at Saints with a brilliant finish into the bottom corner from just outside the box, after he set up Dango Ouattara’s first goal with a pinpoint cross from the left.

Scott has been ruled out through injury since April, after having surgery on a groin issue he had been managing all season, which makes his performances all the more impressive.

The Scot finished runner-up in the Micky Cave/Daily Echo award last season to Dominic Solanke – but this season he emerged on top.

In third was Lewis Cook, collecting 14 per cent of votes, while Milos Kerkez (ten per cent), Justin Kluivert (eight per cent), Antoine Semenyo (six per cent), Tyler Adams and Illia Zabarnyi (both four per cent) received love from the fans for their efforts this season.

But it was a tough decision to make, with all 15 of the eligible players for the award receiving multiple votes from fans, in recognition of what has been a record-breaking campaign for the Cherries.

Christie joins a host of Cherries legends to have won the award, see a full list of winners here:
