GOALKEEPER Cameron Plain is currently training with Portsmouth, having been released by Cherries.

That is according to a report in the Portsmouth News, who say the 22-year-old is with John Mousinho’s squad as part of their training camp in Croatia.

Plain, the development squad’s first choice goalkeeper last season, was let go by Cherries this summer after his contract his expired.

Having played his youth football at AFC Bitterne Jaguars and Winchester City, Plain spent six years at Cherries.

He was part of the squad which reached the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals in 2019 and gained experience out on loan in non-league at Bashley, Wimborne Town and Ringwood Town.

Plain regularly trained with Cherries’ first team and was named on the substitutes bench for 10 league and cup matches, but never made a senior appearance.

The stopper kept six consecutive clean sheets for Alan Connell’s development squad last season.

Portsmouth News say Will Norris and former Cherries trialist Jordan Archer will battle it out for the number one spot at Pompey this season.

But they are said to still be looking to add another player to their goalkeeping department.

Plain worked with current Pompey goalkeeping coach Joe Prodomo at Cherries.

The arrangement also works well for Plain, who is keeping fit while searching for his next club.

Portsmouth have been promoted back into the Championship and start their season away at Leeds United on August 10.
