EVERY word Cherries boss Andoni Iraola said in front of the cameras at his pre-match press conference, ahead of AFC Bournemouth's final Premier League home game of the season against Brentford tomorrow (3pm).

Q: Congratulations on your nomination for Premier League manager of the season. How do you feel?

AI: “I think it's something for the club.

“I think probably people think that we have done a very good season, and it's good to see yourself with this kind of recognition.

“I think the other nominees, I think they are on another level, I would say.

“It’s true - they are the top four teams in the league.

“And I think it's good that a club that like us receive this kind of recognition.

“But the same way, if it goes to Sean Dyche or Gary O'Neil, they are doing also very good jobs, probably not fighting for the Champions League or for the top prizes.”

“I think it's nice to receive the nomination."

Q: Who told you the news?

AI: “I was here, working, and I think Ash (Lord, Cherries’ vice president of media and communications) was here and he told me.

“But we are not used to these things in Spain.

“Normally it's not so big that it is here and it’s new also, for me. But I'm happy, especially for the club.”

Q: What does it say about what you’ve achieved this season?

AI: “It looks like it has been a very easy season, after it finishes.

“No - I think it was especially at the start, it was not so good.

“But I think we've been improving now as a team.

“I think the players feel more confident.

“I always say that coaches, we are not so important at the end.

“It is a matter of the quality of the players we have at our disposal.

“I think players have shown this season that they can compete against very good teams and I hope we can continue the development of the players, keeping the squad as strong as we can and be at the level of the competition that is very high.”

Q: Is this season the perfect foundation towards European football?

AI: “I think there are a lot of teams better than us in the Premier League, is what I feel.

“I think we have to be at our best to compete against the teams that are above us.

“Our results have been quite logical, let's say.

“We haven’t taken the results against the top teams.

“We've taken more, or better results against the teams around us, and we've been very good against that team that finished at the back of the standings.

“So I think we have still a lot of room to grow and we have to continue improving because at the end, I think it's very demanding the Premier League.

“And if you stop improving, probably you will finish lower.”

Q: How important is it to finish this season strongly?

AI: “We have two more chances now.

“I'm happy that the team has been fighting every game.

“Even though we lost, I think we finished strong the (Arsenal) game and I hope we continue the same way.

“We have to be at our very best if we want to beat Brentford.

“I think it’s a team that they are coming in a good moment.

“Also, they recovered very, very important players for them that have been probably out for some time this season.

“But this is a team that, for me, it's going to be very difficult.

“And if we want to fight, for example, to be in the top 10, even if it's not in our hands, because we have to remember that Brighton has one game in hand.

“The only chance we have is if we win tomorrow.”

Q: Lloyd Kelly available tomorrow?

AI: Yeah, he will play tomorrow.

“I don't know who will start definitely tomorrow, who will be involved.

“He has been training all week normally and I have no concerns about this.”

Q: Do you think he could still stay beyond his current contract?

AI: “For me it's very difficult right now.

“For me it's even more difficult when the time goes and you arrive without a contract, because I know that the club has been pushing.

“Because we consider him, I've told you a lot of times during the season for me Lloyd is one of our best players, but now it becomes more and more difficult because the end arrives and I suppose it's more difficult.

“But there are chances. Until he is out of contract, there are chances.”

Q: Any further injury news?

AI: I think we will recover Lloyd Kelly, but he was not injured. And I think Tyler Adams and Marcus Tavernier will be part of the of the squad

Q: Thoughts on Brentford?

AI: “I think it's a team that they have the things they do very clear.

“You can see that they've been a lot of time with the same manager.

“They have the set pieces, even the throw ins, the small details.

“Everything is very well worked.

“So I think it's going to be really demanding.

“I think it's an established team in the Premier League.

“They've done a very, very good season previously and I think they've been affected by the injuries, they couldn't play with Ivan Toney for a lot of months.

“Very important players, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Shade, they were really good against us when we faced them, they've been out.

“Probably they haven't finished in the place they deserved.

“And if you look at the stats and the way they play, I think it's going to be difficult because they don't give you a lot, they press a lot, the same way we would want.

“So there will a lot of fight there in the middle without a lot of space. And whoever wins this battle in the middle I think will be dictating the game.”

Q: If you were Gareth Southgate, would you pick Ivan Toney or Dominic Solanke for England?

AI: “It's not fair, I cannot answer you.

“I can but I will not!

“I think you will know my answer, but I don't think it's fair.

“I think it's his job to choose.

“Obviously I'm very, very happy with Dom Solanke, it cannot be otherwise.

“This season he has been performing very well for us, given everything.

“Everything I can say about him is very, very positive and very, very honest.

“He has been one of our best players this season. But I also think Ivan Toney is a very good player. “Probably I haven’t followed his season in the same way as Dom, but these are decisions I don’t have to make.”

Q: If Dominic Solanke scores more goals before the end of the season, will there be more interest in him?

AI: “I don't think it will change.

“I don't think any team will say ‘I'm going to spend crazy money because he scored 20, and if he scores 19, then no.’

“I think everyone knows Dom Solanke.

“I think he's playing very well since the beginning of the season, apart from his goals, and we are very happy to have him.

“He's under contract. He is very happy.

“But it is normal that players that are scoring the goals, they are scoring like Dom and they receive the recognition and the attention from other teams.”

Q: Do you think it is shootout between Solanke and Toney in the England side?

AI: “I cannot answer these things. I really cannot, because I don't know what in this case, Southgate is thinking, how he wants to play, the system, the alternatives he has in his head, if they are losing, if he's thinking to play a certain way or the other.

“So we can talk, we can discuss, we can give our opinions.

“But at the end it is a matter of every national team coach knows what they want to do or in case it's not working, how they want to change it.

“For me, it's very easy because, I mean, I'm Dom's coach, but I don't think it's fair.”

Q: Will you go to watch players live at the Euros

AI: “No, I don't think I will go in person because I have to stay here with kids at school.

“They finish very late, so probably I will be here in England.

“I really haven't thought about it, I will be following them for sure.

“I will be in touch with the ones that have the chance, or even the Copa America that I hope we have some players at also.

“I have to prepare them well for when they come back, give them some days off also because it will be a matter of depending when they are eliminated whether they will come earlier or later.

“But I think when they are part of the national teams, they are kind of not our players in that moment.”

Q: Record amount of wins in a Premier League season motivation?

AI: “Yes, obviously. Obviously every record we can achieve is very welcome.

“Probably the thing we look at more now is the top 10.

“No, because you see yourself in the standings.

“We know we have two difficult games, but we want to keep pushing and try to finish there.

“Because it would be a shame to finish with two losses and then finish in the standings 13th, 14th,  to have it so, so close and don't push for it.

“But we have to try and give our best, definitely.”

Q: Do you ever look back and think what could have been? Brentford scoring a last-minute equaliser in the reverse fixture?

AI: “I remember that game.

“It was a very important game for us because it was kind of in between very difficult games, and we knew if we don't win this one, it's going to be tough.

“It's going to be tough because I think we were playing after, Chelsea, Arsenal, difficult games and we really needed that one.

“But I think they pushed us until the end.

“And then we scored a very good goal and we have to finish with just one point.

“But I think a lot of things have changed.

“A lot of the players will be the same, but the way both teams will have evolved. I think it's going to be different for us.”

Q: What have you made of the atmosphere of home games this season?

AI: “I think especially the last games, I would say the atmospheres have been really good.

“I remember the United game, great atmosphere, the Brighton game the other day, great atmosphere, against Luton, with the comeback obviously.

“But I remember last games at home with the fans pushing us a lot and helping us a lot.

“I hope we can continue the same way at the end, it has to start from the ones that are on the green.

“No, they have to give everything. They have to start pushing, creating the momentum. And I'm sure, everyone outside will continue pushing.”

Q: Heading into the final year of a two-year deal. Do you prefer to have short-term deals?

AI: “I don’t know if ‘preferring’, but I have only been in this situation.

“All the contracts I have signed are for one year.

“This is the first time I think I have had a two-year contract.

“I’ve even finished seasons without any contract and I have been renewing with Rayo like this for three years.

“I am quite calm now with the situation about the contract.

“But whenever the club wants to talk to me, obviously I am very open.”
