AFC BOURNEMOUTH women’s development squad missed out in the FAWNL Reserve Cup final by the odd goal in seven, losing 4-3 to Oxford United.

Hosted at FC United of Manchester’s Broadhurst Park, goals from Darcy Maxted, Elle Elkins, and Madeline Rook were not enough against reigning champions Oxford.

Lucy Trinder had given Oxford a 13th minute lead, but Cherries found an equaliser shortly after through Maxted.

Parity did not last long, goalscorer Trinder turning provider as she found Poppy Dearlove with a cross.

However, Cherries would ensure that the two sides entered the break level.

Starck capitalised upon the chaos of a goalmouth scramble to tuck home.

On the hour mark, Cherries would take the lead for the first time via Rook.

That would be shortlived, a long-range strike from Amy Woodhead bringing scores level for a third time.

12 minutes from time, Woodhead would find another.

Cherries semi-cleared a corner, allowing Woodhead to seize the loose ball and turn home her second.

Bournemouth piled pressure on the Oxford goal in hope of an equaliser, but were left unable to find a way through.

Cherries: Roy; Maxted, Starck (Jennings, 82), Rook (Cooper, 67), MacKinnon, Harris (Lergo, 82), Hammick, Murphy, Francis (Goadsby, 70), Elliott, Elkins (Smith, 82).
