ANDONI Iraola picked out Marcos Senesi’s “very aggressive” display against Manchester United – even if it left the AFC Bournemouth boss a “little bit scared”.

Argentine international Senesi provided the assists to both of Cherries’ goals in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the weekend, setting up both Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert.

There was controversy surrounding Manchester United’s second equaliser, a harsh penalty awarded for handball going against Adam Smith and Cherries, whilst Bournemouth felt they should have had a spot-kick in the final minute for a foul on Ryan Christie.

As evidenced by having a hand in both of his side’s goals, Senesi was influential against the Red Devils.

The centre-back could frequently be seen stepping up and getting stuck into tackles to win the ball back for his side, one such incident directly leading to Solanke’s opener.

Even after picking up a yellow card in the first half Senesi maintained this intensity, with his head coach admitting that he slightly feared another caution for the defender.

Asked about Senesi’s pressing display, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “Marcos is very good doing this. It's helping us a lot.

“He has a very aggressive approach.

“I was a little bit scared with the yellow card from the first half, because he sometimes risks and leaves his position, every wrong decision he could take.

“But, I think he was playing well, and we decided to continue with him.

“And I think he dealt really well with the game.”

This season Senesi has made 25 appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals and setting up a further four.

In total he has now made 64 appearances for Cherries since arriving from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord in the summer of 2022 for a reported £13million.
