DANNY Ford says there have been no “further conversations at this stage” between Pirates and the landlords of Poole Stadium, regarding an extension of the lease.

Various big clubs in British speedway have fallen by the wayside in recent years due to stadium disputes, including Swindon Robins, Wolverhampton Wolves and Peterborough Panthers.

Poole are seeing a rise in support, with around a 10 per cent boost in season ticket sales ahead of the 2024 campaign. The season opener saw a bumper crowd pack into the Wimborne Road venue for the Good Friday meeting with Oxford Cheetahs.

Speaking to the Daily Echo in the summer of 2023, Pirates owner Matt Ford said: “There’s enough people coming in to pay the wages and the expenses. Where the issues long-term will come will be whatever happens with the stadium.

“That could be as early as 2025 and beyond.

“I want people to enjoy speedway for the rest of this year, enjoy next year, because we know that’s a certainty. After that, there is no certainty.

“We can only hope that things improve and that we get a chance to extend our stay at the stadium.”

Asked if there is any update regarding whether Poole will definitely be back at tapes again after this season concludes, promoter Danny Ford, son of Matt, told the Daily Echo: “At the minute, it’s just the status quo.

“We’ve not had any further conversations at this stage.

“Our landlord has got some other situations going on at the minute which we’re aware of and obviously keeping an eye on.

“I don’t feel it’s particularly right of me to comment on it too much further at the minute.

“When I do have news on it, obviously we’ll share it with everyone.”

Meanwhile, Poole have announced a rearranged date for this week’s postponed home fixture against Plymouth Gladiators.

The two were set to do battle on Wednesday, but the meeting was rained off. It will now take place instead on Wednesday, May 1 (7.30pm).
