CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola says that his job is made “easier” for him if his players react poorly to being out of the team, stating “that it’s one less for the next game.”

Iraola made sweeping changes between victories over Everton and Crystal Palace, with some enforced due to illness and fitness levels.

The Basque boss has tried to keep an unchanged side together throughout the campaign, but as with any club, has had his hands tied by external factors such as injuries and international commitments.

As such, there is the potential for frustration to grow for players outside the starting XI.

While Iraola accepts this may be the case, he also shared how those that let their disappointment lead to poor performances in training effectively make the head coach’s mind up for him.

Iraola told the Daily Echo: “That's something that I cannot control when I'm choosing the starting 11.

“I'm not choosing because he will have a better reaction if he doesn't play.

“I have to choose the best 11 that I think are going to win the game and I will.

“I always tell the players if after the game the next training, you are angry and you don't want to train and you don’t work hard, it’s easier for me because it's one less for the next game.

“The difficult thing for me is when they come the next day and they keep pushing and they train well, and then they make me think ‘well, it's going to be difficult to continue with him on the bench because he's pushing a lot and he's training very well, and I have to find the moment to put him in again.’

“And I think they know it and I think we are training well and everyone is pushing.

“Obviously I accept and I know that players, when they don't play, they are angry.

“It has to be like this. But there are some limits.

"There are things that are good or bad for the team, and everyone is having a good behaviour there.”
