CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola revealed he keeps in contact with USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter over Tyler Adams as the midfielder makes his return from injury.

After an injury-stricken season, Cherries midfielder Adams finally made his Premier League debut for the club in last week’s win over Luton Town, coming off the bench to seal out the 4-3 victory.

He made his return for his country on Thursday evening, helping the United States to defeat Jamaica in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Introduced as a substitute in the 63 minute, Adams was brought off 10 minutes into extra time as the US looked to manage his return from a hamstring issue that required two surgeries.

The US will now face Mexico in the final on Monday evening.

Asked if he kept in contact with players on international duty, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I'm aware of what happens, but I'm not the person normally to send the message.

“It’s true that with Tyler (Adams), for example, I have some relationship with Gregg Berhalter and we sometimes we message each other or we talk before (Tyler goes).

“But normally the sports scientists are the ones in charge of the load of training and these things, the ones that speak more and then give us the reports.”

Iraola went on to clarify that Adams had been placed on a minutes restriction, but insisted that it did not come at Cherries’ behest.

“It was not coming from us,” the Basque boss continued.

“I said to Greg that Tyler was training well.

“He was doing well. The more he plays, the better for everyone, I think.

“But it's true that there is a medical part, that it's not me, that they have to manage the load and they are the ones that I'm sure they are saying, ‘okay, the best thing is to play 45 or 60’, or whatever they decide.”

Iraola then went on to predict Adams’ impact on Cherries for the rest of the season.

He explained: “I think it's going to be like a new signing for us, for the last part of the season.

“I think he was very good the minutes he played.

“I haven't seen the minutes from (his game for the USA) yesterday, but they did well.

“He went in when they were losing and he went out when they were winning.

“So I hope he has also played well.

“I know that he has finished with good feelings physically.

“So I think it's a very good addition, because we have obviously big expectations with Tyler.”
