CHERRIES starlet Alex Scott hopes his side can leave themselves in a “great position” heading into the international break by taking maximum points from their upcoming games.

Relegation-threatened Sheffield United and Luton Town visit the south coast in the next week, Cherries’ final two games before the March international window following the postponement of their trip to Wolves due to Wanderers’ FA Cup progression.

Blades are first up, travelling to Dean Court on Saturday, March 9 (3pm), before Luton are welcomed on Wednesday, March 13 (7.30pm).

After a 2-0 victory away at Burnley produced Cherries’ first Premier League win of 2024, there is hope that the Dorset side can piece together another strong run of form to fully cement their Premier League status for a third consecutive season.

A 2-1 win over Burnley back in October in the reverse fixture sparked a run of 22 points earned from a possible 30 to end 2023, with Cherries wishing that similar form can be found to finish off the season.

Discussing the upcoming home games, Scott told the Daily Echo: “They’re huge games.

“It’s teams that are all fighting as well, so we know how difficult it’s going to be.

“But we feel like there’s a great chance there to put us in a great position before the international break.

“Then we can come back afterwards and maybe there’s less pressure on us to get those results in the final stretch of the season.

“So these three games leading up to the international break are huge.

“We’ll be looking to get more points, like we did (on Sunday).”

Reflecting on Sunday’s win over Burnley, Scott continued: “It’s obviously a good result.

“I think we’ve definitely played better than that at times and lost, so it’s all about getting the three points.

“We really needed that win.

“They had way more possession than we did.

“But we dug in and scored when we needed to.

“I think we played well, we sat in when we had to, created chances and scored the two goals.

“Obviously they didn’t take their chances, but they had a lot of the ball.

“That’s fine with us. If we’re scoring goals and winning games, that’s all that matters.

“We’ve got another two massive games coming up, which we need three points from as well.

“So it’s a good step after a few months without any good results, so we’re happy.”
