ANDONI Iraola provided a positive update on Tyler Adams, revealing plans for the midfielder to feature for Cherries’ development squad in the coming days.

Adams, a £23million signing from Leeds United last summer, has played just once for Cherries, with a cameo appearance off the bench in an EFL Cup game against Stoke City in September.

His last appearance before that came for Leeds in the Premier League in March 2023.

Either side of that Stoke game has been an injury nightmare for the 25-year-old, undergoing two surgeries to try and repair a hamstring issue.

But the USA international is now on the brink of making his comeback.

Asked how soon midfielder Adams could return to fitness, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “Tyler has started training with the group.

“In the past week he has started training quite normally.

“Not everything, but most of the things he does with the group.

“Now it is a matter of taking the rhythm of his teammates.

“It is very possible also maybe, if everything works, he plays some minutes with the second team, because after almost one year he will need some rhythm.

“We will try to fit everything so he can have some minutes.

“From there he has to build. But he is doing really well.

“No pain and he is training well, so everything is going in a good direction.”

Iraola did not specify which fixture Adams could feature for Alan Connell’s development squad.

Their next two scheduled fixtures are at Wimborne Town’s New Cuthbury, against Queens Park Rangers this Wednesday and then Colchester United on March 5, both in the Professional Development League.

Cherries also have a Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final away at AFC Totton on the horizon, with a date to be confirmed.

Asked if injured duo Max Aarons and James Hill are still some way away from a return, Iraola confirmed: "Yes, they are out. I don’t expect them, no."
