SPORTING tributes have been made to Eddie Mitchell after his passing over the weekend.

Former Cherries chairman Mitchell passed unexpectedly at the age of 69 last weekend, with his previous clubs posting tributes.

Cherries posted a brief message to their Twitter account, sharing: “AFC Bournemouth are saddened to learn of the passing of former owner and chairman Eddie Mitchell.”

Dorchester Town, a club where Mitchell was chairman before joining Cherries, posted on Twitter: “All at Dorchester Town Football Club were saddened to hear of the passing of former owner and chairman Eddie Mitchell at the weekend.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Eddie's family and friends at this time.”

After spells with Dorchester and Cherries, Mitchell became involved with Southern Premier League South side Poole Town, helping the Dolphins in their quest for a permanent home.

Poole Town’s chairman Chris Reeves posted a statement on the club’s website which read: “Last weekend the Club lost a true friend with the sudden passing of Eddie Mitchell at the age of 69.

“Eddie was a regular at the Black Gold over many years and was fundamental in assisting with the construction and cost of the Clubhouse at the ground.

“Without his huge input into that project it is debatable whether we would have been able to satisfy ground grading at the time and take our place in the Southern Premier Division.

“Eddie was always so full of energy and enthusiasm and showed huge interest in and commitment to our cause – he was passionate about improving our facilities, be it at the Black Gold or at a new site, and was never shy in coming up with ideas and offers of help from his own professionals to promote our ideas with BCP and others.

“He was a good sounding board for advice and always made time for us when asked.

“He will be sorely missed.”

Mitchell’s company, Elite Skills Arena, are encouraging Cherries fans to give a round of applause on the 69th minute during Saturday’s game with Manchester City in his memory.
