CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola was happy with how his side approached the closing stages of their 2-2 draw with Newcastle, despite conceding late on.
After Dominic Solanke’s opportunistic strike had been cancelled out by Anthony Gordon’s contentious spot kick, Cherries entered stoppage time 2-1 up courtesy of Antoine Semenyo’s fine strike.
However, Lloyd Kelly’s slip underneath a Newcastle cross into the box allowed Matt Ritchie to poke home in the chaos, ensuring the spoils were shared.
The moment of misfortune was compounded by the fact that Cherries had harassed and harried Newcastle up the pitch, with the Toon failing to properly trouble Neto in the final moments before the equaliser.
Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I think we didn’t give space, I think we continued pressing well.
“We ended the game trying to attack. We should have taken the last corner also.
“But it's true that, again, there is a slip. There is a rebound, a second ball, there is a goal.
“We lost two points because of this goal, but we have to look before and we have to look to the things that are very difficult to understand after spending, I repeat, ten minutes analysing the play."
