NEWCASTLE United look set to be without their two star strikers for this weekend’s visit of Cherries.

As was the case in the reverse fixture, in which Cherries eased to a 2-0 victory, both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak are nursing injury issues.

Winger Anthony Gordon, the club’s third top scorer this season, led the line that day and appears the most viable option to do so again this weekend.

Speaking this morning, boss Eddie Howe confirmed former Cherries star Wilson will not be available, having suffered an injury in the win at Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Howe said: “We hoped initially he could carry on – and he felt good, actually, Callum felt functionally fine. He was moving his arm and had full strength.

“But when he went to see a specialist, I think it was apparent quite early that he needed it operating on and I think he’s having that operation as we speak.

"It is a big blow. I really feel for him. We hope he will be back before the end of the season."

Discussing Isak, former Cherries boss Howe added: “Alex is probably not ready for the weekend, but he is very close and looking really good.

“I am really pleased with his progress.”

Newcastle have a host of other players unavailable including Nick Pope, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, while Joe Willock is also likely to again miss out.
