INJURY may again come in the way of Callum Wilson and facing his former club Cherries.

Since Wilson departed Cherries in 2020, he has missed all three Premier League matches against them.

The only time the striker has faced Cherries in his career came in December 2022, starting an EFL Cup clash at St James’ Park.

But it looks like a league meeting with his former employers could again elude Wilson this weekend.

Cherries head to the north east on Saturday unbeaten in all three league games against Newcastle since Eddie Howe took charge, having defeated them 2-0 at Vitality Stadium earlier this season.

A late call is set to be made on Wilson, who left the pitch after the weekend win over Nottingham Forest using his shirt as a sling.

A report by Mail Online has since revealed the 31-year-old England international is suffering with a pectoral injury, the chest muscle that connects to the bones of the shoulder and upper arm.

The injury is said to have occurred after a tangle with a defender at the City Ground.

Newcastle hope Wilson can manage the pain in time to feature against Cherries, with a late call set to be made.

Fellow striker Alexander Isak is also a doubt, with a groin problem.

Wilson scored 67 goals in 187 appearances for Cherries.
