CHERRIES boss Kevin Bond is poised to make Peterborough goalkeeper Shwan Jalal his first summer signing.

Bond has agreed an initial one-month loan deal with the 24-year-old who has impressed during his brief trial spell at Dean Court.

The former Spurs trainee caught the eye in Cherries' friendly against Portsmouth a week ago and again during Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Bristol City.

Born in Baghdad, Jalal has been restricted to just 12 appearances for Posh since moving to London Road from Woking in January 2007.

Bond said: "I don't think he's done anything wrong since he's been here. I've been really pleased with his attitude and how he's approached everything. He genuinely wants to be here, which is what you want to hear.

"He wants to be playing first-team football and doesn't want to be second choice anywhere. He's impressed me in training and in games.

"He's agreed to come on a month's loan and I would like to think we might be able to do something a bit more permanent at some stage."

Jalal linked up with Cherries for the start of their pre-season training camp at Woodbury Park yesterday. Bond's men will spend four days in Devon and will also take in tomorrow's friendly at Dorchester.

Portsmouth teenagers Matt Ritchie and Joel Ward, together with Chester City winger Paul Rutherford, also accepted invitations to attend the training camp. The trio featured against Bristol City and could also join Cherries ahead of the new season.

Midfielder Ritchie and defender Ward both penned their first professional contracts with Pompey earlier this summer and could come in on loan, while 21-year-old Rutherford could be available on a full transfer.

However, Bond is unlikely to pursue his interest in Stoke pair Ryan Shotton and Ritchie De Laet, while Sammy Igoe and Carl Pettefer, who both joined Cherries for the start of pre-season three weeks ago, are not involved in this week's training camp.

Discussing Igoe and Pettefer, Bond said: "Given the situation we're in, there are other positions on the field that are a bigger priority for me at this moment in time.

"When those have been resolved and depending if there's any money left to bring in any additions, people like Sammy and Carl will come into the equation. I made them aware of that from day one."

Fareham-based Igoe is understood to be a target for Blue Square South outfit Havant & Waterlooville.

Winger De Laet and defender Shotton have both returned to Stoke and although Bond had been keen to secure the services of Shotton, the player apparently indicated he wanted to play at a higher level.

Meanwhile, Bond confirmed trialists Clydie Roberts, Stephen Maher, John Fletcher and Corrin Brooks-Meade had all left the club.
