ANDONI Iraola says he has no issues with coach Pablo de la Torre’s “natural” touchline antics, insisting: “It is good, because I have not been involved!”

Head coach Iraola served a one-match touchline ban on Boxing Day, punishment for picking up three yellow cards this season, and watched on from the stands as Cherries beat Fulham at Vitality Stadium.

Since, it is his coaching staff who have instead been getting into some bother with the officials, fellow Spaniard de la Torre at the heart of verbal spats in the dugouts with the likes of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham Hotspur’s Ange Postecoglou.

His antics have not gone unnoticed among Cherries’ fanbase, who have enjoyed the 34-year-old’s passion on the sidelines.

Fitness coach de la Torre was the only new face to join Cherries’ backroom staff in the summer alongside Iraola. Inigo Perez was due to join as an assistant to Iraola, but failed to obtain a work permit.

Instead, Iraola has been working with existing coaches at the club, such as Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper.

Bournemouth Echo:

Discussing de la Torre, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I have known Pablo from previous experiences.

“I worked with him even in Cyprus, then at Rayo and we know each other really well.

“He is helping us, in the same way that Tommy, Shaun and Ali (Harris) are helping us.

“The integration I think has been really good.”

Asked about de la Torre’s matchday demeanour with the officials and opposition coaches, Iraola added: “He has had two yellows recently!

“It is good, because I have not been involved, I am safe!

“I have to take care, because I don’t want to miss any other games.”

De la Torre himself has played up to his touchline persona. Klopp was getting visibly frustrated with the Spaniard during Liverpool’s recent visit to Vitality Stadium, before seemingly making a point of turning to look at him when the Reds took the lead in the game.

Taking to Instagram after the game, de la Torre posted a picture of himself and Klopp on the touchline, alongside a sarcastic caption which translated into English as: “It shows a lot that you love me.”

The post also included: “This man that Klopp is freaking out about has given us the keys to high performance.”

Asked if he has instructed de la Torre to do some of his arguing for him after his recent ban, Iraola replied: “No, I don’t tell him to!

“I think it is something natural for him.

“There are normal things we argue with the fourth official about.

“We start to know the fourth officials, they are the same a lot of the time now.

“We have other situations from previous games, when the decisions have gone another way and we can have more arguments now to discuss.”

As well as working with Iraola at AEK Larnaca and Rayo Vallecano, Cuenca-born de la Torre has had spells with Valencia, Mirandes, Almeria and Armenian club Banants.
