ANDONI Iraola believed his side’s “really aggressive” pressing denied Swansea City the chance to impose their game during Cherries’ emphatic 5-0 win in the FA Cup fourth round.

Cherries progressed the final 16 of the competition in quick fashion on Thursday night, running up a five-goal lead by the break through Lloyd Kelly, Alex Scott, Luis Sinisterra, David Brooks, and Dominic Solanke.

Following the comprehensive defeat, Swansea boss Luke Williams took responsibility for his side’s display, apologising to his players for setting the team up “wrong”.

But Cherries boss Iraola felt the approach had merit, praising his players for preventing Swansea from playing the way they wanted to.

He commented: “I think they put a very technical starting 11.

“We've talked before the game that if we are not really, really, really aggressive in the press, you maybe don't see the ball today because they have very, very good players in the middle.

“If you let them play to their rhythm and impose a little bit their game, we knew that we are going to struggle because they have the quality.

“They are in the middle with all the players they put inside, if you don't go really aggressive I think it would be difficult for us.

“But I think we were really aggressive sometimes, even going man to man in a lot of situations.

“We were winning the duels and it's become difficult for them.

“But I understand what he has tried to do and I'm sure probably in other kind of game they can be really successful playing this way.”

The draw for the next round will be staged on Sunday, January 28, shortly before Liverpool’s tie with Norwich City.

Fifth-round ties are scheduled to take place in the week commencing February 26, with games staged in midweek.
