CHERRIES women eased past third-placed Swindon Town 3-0 to restart their FA Women’s National League Division One South West promotion campaign after the winter break.

Lucy Cooper opened scores after 11 minutes before a debut goal for Kenni Thompson put Cherries two-goals up at the break.

Alisha Buckingham made sure of the result with little time remaining, keeping the pressure on league leaders Exeter City.

It was a strong start for Cherries at Long Lane, with Cooper played in by a back-heeled pass from Katie James.

Debutant Thompson made it two before the break, sending Cherries well on their way to a 10th straight league victory.

The second half saw Cherries content to allow the away side to control possession, Swindon unable to muster much of anything.

Any doubts over the destination of the three points were put to bed four minutes before the final whistle, substitute Buckingham poking home the loose ball after Molly Barron-Clark had slipped in possession.

Cherries: Kosinska, Venditto, Bleazard, Treweek, Jones; James, Smith (Buckingham, 60), Hillier (Barron-Clark, 60), Thompson (Gilroy, 73), Cooper (Bloomfield, 73), McGuinness (Gladwell, 85).
