CHERRIES finally picked up their first Premier League win under Andoni Iraola, defeating Burnley 2-1 at Dean Court.

Antoine Semenyo cancelled out Charlie Taylor’s early screamer in the first half, before Philip Billing produced the goal of the game to seal all three points from a game at the 10th attempt.

Iraola made four changes to his starting line-up to face Burnley, with Andrei Radu handed a Premier League debut.

The Romanian international replaced the injured Neto in goal, after Cherries’ skipper picked up an ankle issue in training.

Fellow keeper Mark Travers, who was recalled from his loan spell at Stoke City on Friday, was named on the bench.

Outfield changes included Chris Mepham, who was handed a first league start of the campaign, whilst Semenyo was named in the starting XI for the first time since the 2-2 draw away at Brentford.

Lloyd Kelly rounded off the replacements, with Milos Kerkez, the suspended Lewis Cook, and David Brooks all making way.

Both sides had early shots without truly testing either keeper.

But there would be an early goal, the away side taking an 11th minute lead through Taylor.

A simple ball over the top found the left-back, Cherries dealing to clear for a corner.

Having already sent off a warning shot from the edge of the area at the preceding corner, Taylor let fly once again, rifling home and leaving Radu rooted to the spot.

Going behind sparked Cherries back into life, although their decision making left something to be desired.

Frequently the hosts would drive into dangerous areas, only to pick the wrong option or play the wrong type of pass.

Cherries’ equaliser did not require a pass, Semenyo pickpocketing Taylor in abrasive fashion before charging through on goal.

The Ghanaian international still had work to do, powering home across goal to find the far corner and restore parity 11 minutes after the opener.

There was a brief VAR check to ascertain whether Semenyo had illegally won the ball back, with Burnley’s protests falling on deaf ears as the goal stood.

Scores levelled, Cherries started to enjoy frequent forays into the Burnley box without drawing further blood.

Semenyo’s directness proved a constant threat to Vincent Kompany’s men, whilst defender Mepham was unable to capitalise at an unmarked header from a corner.

The Welsh international would get another chance at a corner later into the half, the ball getting lost in his feet within a crowded Claret area.

There were roars for the referee’s whistle when Burnley keeper James Trafford appeared to handle outside the area, the former Manchester City youngster gathering the ball inside the box before momentum took him out of it.

However, there was no intervention, as both sides entered the break at a goal apiece.

The second period was controlled by Cherries, who frequently kept their guests hemmed inside their half with a succession of corners.

The hosts continued to huff and puff without creating chances with substance.

Dom Solanke could do no more from a tempting Billing cross, but the opportunity was not dangerous enough to truly trouble Trafford.

What did trouble the young goalie was Billing from around 40 yards out.

After venturing into the Burnley half, the Dane looked up to spot the keeper in no man’s land, opting to loft the ball over Trafford to give Cherries the lead.

With 14 minutes remaining, Cherries knew what they had to do in order to secure a first win under Andoni Iraola.

Substitute Jay Rodriguez thought he had found an equaliser when he broke through to loft the ball over Radu, only for the offside flag to go up.

A lengthy VAR check ensued, with the match officials taking five minutes to determine that Rodriguez was in fact offside.

There was a further scare when Sander Berge found space at the back post, his header clawed away by Radu.
