POOLE Town returned to winning ways in the Southern League Premier South, defeating Tiverton Town 2-0 at Tatnam Farm.

Tony Lee’s early penalty was added to by Toby Holmes in the second half, the striker coming off the bench to great effect.

Manager Matt Tubbs made one change to the side defeated 4-2 at Basingstoke on Saturday, Toby Holmes making way for Destiny Ojo.

Wes Fogden’s industry to keep a loose ball in play quickly paid off, the veteran laying the ball off for Destiny Ojo.

The Portsmouth loanee was instantly felled inside the area, allowing Lee to convert his 10th goal of the campaign from the spot.

Another set piece almost produced a second inside 10 minutes for the hosts.

A whipped in corner caused havoc inside the Tiverton area, the away side taking multiple attempts including a clearance off the line to keep Poole out.

Shortly after the hour mark the ball was back in the Tivvy net, only for the offside flag to deny Ojo after a neat turn and finish.

Max Evans in the Poole goal went largely untroubled, only forced in the one routine save, but chances were at a premium for both sides.

At the start of the second period, a lapse in concentration at the back for Dolphins allowed Cameron Salmon an opportunity at the back stick.

Evans spread himself big to deny the attacker, before the rebound was played across goal, a dangerous moment thumped clear by Dec Rose.

Substitute Holmes almost made an immediate impact off the bench, the striker drawing a save out of Lewis Williams in the Tiverton goal after swivelling his marker.

Lee went close again, poking the ball wide of the far post in a half-hearted effort.

But it would be sub Holmes that sealed the game off in the 77th minute.

Slipped in by Cam Murray, the marksman kept his cool to open up his body and place the ball in the bottom corner.

Dolphins kept on looking for more late on. Another substitute went close, Will Fletcher denied by the chest of keeper Williams.

Captain Jamie Whisken saw a flicked header caught after a spell of late pressure, but Poole were unable to stretch their lead further.
