POOLE Town’s reward for defeating divisional rivals Sholing in the FA Trophy third qualifying round is another tie with Southern League Premier South opposition, a third meeting of the season with Bracknell Town.

Dolphins were 3-1 victors over the Boatmen on Saturday thanks to goals from Wes Fogden, Toby Holmes, and Kai Samadi.

They will now welcome the Robins to Tatnam Farm on Saturday, October 28 in the first round proper of the FA Trophy.

Winning sides will receive £3,000, whilst teams knocked out will earn £775.

Poole reached the second round of the competition for the first and only time during the COVID-stricken 2020-21 season, knocked out by National South outfit Maidstone United.

No new teams enter the competition at this stage, with sides from the sixth tier entering in the second round.

Clubs from non-league’s elite, the National League, enter at the third round, with a total of seven rounds before the final, which will be held at Wembley in conjunction with the FA Vase final the weekend of Saturday, May 11.

Bracknell and Poole have locked horns twice already this campaign, Dolphins 3-1 victors at home in a league meeting before the Robins won by the same margin in the FA Cup just two weeks ago.

Whilst there are no replays in the FA Trophy, ties heading straight to penalties if scores are level after 90 minutes, the two teams will play each other at least once more this campaign, with the return league fixture scheduled for Saturday, December 16.

Poole had been due to travel to Wales to face Merthyr Town in league action, but with both teams advancing to the next round of the Trophy, that fixture will now need to be rearranged.

Dolphins’ next match is a trip to Basingstoke on Saturday, October 14.
