CHERRIES midfielder Lewis Cook insisted there was no blame attributed to individual errors in 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, also admitting that the team were not at “100 per cent.”

Cook played the full 90 minutes as Gunners effectively ran riot at Vitality Stadium, first-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard added to in the second period by Kai Havertz and Ben White.

Arsenal’s second and third goals came from the penalty spot, after two rash challenges from Max Aarons and Ryan Christie respectively.

Cherries did not cover themselves in glory for the opener and final goal either, with Saka and White unmarked for their headed finishes inside the box.

However, whilst Cook did not deny Cherries were not at their best, he believed that his teammates showed fight and energy that will bode well for future encounters.

Speaking to the Daily Echo after the match, Cook stated: “Difficult to take.

“I think like in most games we showed spells.

"But things like that (giving away two penalties) make it difficult to win games, especially against a team like this.

“One of the best teams in the world, we know that we've got to be 100 per cent to win a game like this.

“And I don't think we were.

“Like I say, we showed glimpses.

“I think the fight’s there, the energy and the work rate definitely there, but it's just a few mistakes.”

Asked about the penalty decisions, Cook replied: “Well I haven’t see it in back on the TV, but whoever makes them mistakes, you see the person doing it, they give everything in the game.

“So there’s no blame or anything there.

“We're a team. So we’ve just got to bounce back from this.

“We've got a few big games coming up and we'll just try and get back to the drawing board and put it right.”

Cherries’ first opportunity to right the weekend’s wrongs comes away at Everton this Saturday, when they visit a Toffees side yet to win at their Goodison Park home this campaign.

The international break then separates Cherries’ next home game from their trip to Merseyside, with former head coach Gary O’Neil back in town with his Wolverhampton Wanderers team.

Cherries last won a Premier League fixture in April, against Leeds United, a run of 11 games that stretches back to O’Neil’s tenure in charge at Dean Court.

Currently Andoni Iraola’s side are 18th in the Premier League table, with three points from their opening seven fixtures.
