CHERRIES women made it five wins from five league games to start the campaign with a 5-0 win over Torquay United.

Centre-back Helen Bleazard remarkably scored a hat-trick after attacker Gemma McGuinness had notched a brace of her own at Coach Road.

A well-worked move allowed McGuinness the opportunity to open scores after just 19 minutes, the attacker easily stroking home.

Her second effort on 41 minutes was also taken with poise, Lucy Cooper feeding the ball to McGuinness on the edge of the area before the winger turned and found the bottom corner to double Cherries’ lead.

Although Cherries were on top throughout the contest, Torquay still asked questions of their backline.

A phenomenal flick-and-volley inside the area from Gulls captain Tracey Cross seemed destined for the back of the net, but goalie Daniela Kosinska proved equal to the effort, producing a fine one-handed save to push the shot past the far post.

On the cusp of half-time, Bleazard bagged the first of her three goals.

The defender waited in the Torquay box after coming up for a set-piece, the recycled ball coming back into the area for her to poke past Emma Ayers in the Gulls’ goal.

Having scored in the closing stages of the first period, Bleazard popped up again in the opening moments of the second.

The Welsh international was well placed to flick a header into the back of the net from a wide free kick.

Bleazard completed the rout on 71 minutes, latching onto a lofted through ball, taking it past Ayers and rolling into the empty net to complete her treble.

The result leaves Steve Cuss’s charges atop the FA Women’s National League South West division, with 15 points from their first five games.

Cherries have averaged just under six goals a game this term, with a goal difference of 27 after conceding just twice.
