CHERRIES will “respect” Brighton when they visit the Amex Stadium on Sunday (2pm), but boss Andoni Iraola says his charges have faith to take something away from the tricky trip.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls are flying in the Premier League, the division’s top goal-scorers with 15 goals from their opening five Premier League fixtures.

Their four wins have placed them in fifth in the embryonic league table, but Iraola believes Cherries can ask enough questions of their hosts at the weekend.

He explained: “We know the game we are going to play.

“I think that they will try to control the possession, control the game, play in our half.

“We need to have very good individual performances, win duels.

“The other day (against Chelsea), once we started winning duels in the middle, the team become much more dangerous going forward.

“And we also have very good weapons, attacking weapons and we have to attack the box and make them run also backwards.

“We respect them.

“If they are playing really well, they are scoring a lot of goals.

“But we also trust ourselves and we think if we give our level, we can be competitive and we can take points from that.”

On Thursday evening Brighton played their first ever game in Europe, ending up on the wrong side of a 3-2 defeat at home to AEK Athens in the Europa League.

Asked if Cherries hoped to emulate Brighton’s rise, Iraola responded: “I think they have done a very difficult thing.

“They have been improving every single year, the last seasons.

“At the end, they achieved to play in Europe, a position with an amazing season.

“They are a team that is playing with a clear identity.

“I think every praise they are receiving, they really deserve it because they are playing really well and with a clear identity.

“But there is a lot of way to go and a lot of things to do.

“There's a lot of very good games to play, but we are still not there.”
