MARCUS Tavernier is keen to “take the positives” from Cherries’ 2-2 draw at Brentford into this weekend’s clash against Chelsea, as the club seek a first win of the Premier League season.

After four games, Cherries sit on two points, having been pegged back late on at the Gtech Community Stadium last time out.

They host Mauricio Pochettino's Blues on Sunday (2pm).

Tavernier made his first appearance of the campaign in that match after a knee injury, coming off the bench to provide an assist.

Looking back on the result, the 24-year-old told the Daily Echo: “If you look at the game and the position we put ourselves in, we’re all frustrated that we didn’t come away with three points.

“We know that we haven’t got off to the best of starts, with not picking up three points yet and that was a big opportunity for us.

“But it’s something you’ve got to look back on, take the positives from and move forward onto Chelsea and take those positives and put them into Chelsea.”

Cherries have had a lengthy injury list, which is starting to ease with Tavernier and Adam Smith returning to fitness.

“We’ve got players coming back who are going to press and there’s going to be competition for places,” said Tavernier.

“As a player, that’s what you need. You need to be on your toes and know that you have to be at your best to play in this team.

“We’ve got that calibre of team now so when everyone is back fit, it’s going to be a great squad and I’m looking forward to it.”
