PORTSMOUTH loanee Tino Anjorin claims his new club are “bigger” than south coast neighbours Cherries and Southampton.

Poole-born Anjorin joined League One Pompey last week, on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

Anjorin, 21, grew up on the south coast with his formative footballing years spent at Bournemouth’s Littledown Centre, before joining the Blues’ academy aged seven.

Portsmouth currently sit fifth in the third tier, a level below Saints and two below Premier League Cherries.

In quotes reported by Portsmouth News, Anjorin said: “I know Portsmouth is a massive club. I’m from down south, so I know they’re a bigger club than Bournemouth and Southampton.

“We have to get Pompey back to where they belong.

“Pompey’s not a League One club, Pompey’s not a Championship club – Pompey are a Premier League club.

“I guess this is about the first steps in getting back up to those levels, so the ambition now is to get promotion.

“I used to look up to players that played for Pompey.”

Anjorin, who was schooled at St Aldhelm’s in Branksome and QE in Wimborne, has made five senior appearances for Chelsea and previously spent time out on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow and Huddersfield Town.
