CHERRIES winger Jaidon Anthony shared how he was “ready to do whatever job” he was asked ahead of the new season, including featuring at right-back against West Ham.

Anthony started and played 60 minutes as Cherries came back to share the spoils against the Hammers, Dom Solanke’s late strike cancelling out Jarrod Bowen’s opening curler.

Prior to the opening day fixture, boss Andoni Iraola had been coy as to whether new signing Max Aarons would be chucked straight into the fray, instead stating that Anthony and Chris Mepham were options at right-back.

Prior to Aarons’ arrival from Norwich City, the only two senior right-backs at the club, Adam Smith and Ryan Fredericks were both injured, meaning Anthony had to step in as a makeshift defender in Cherries’ final pre-season fixture against FC Lorient.

It is not a completely foreign position to the 23-year-old, previous boss Gary O’Neil deploying the wideman at wing-back at times last season.

The signing of Aarons was only completed on Thursday, meaning he had limited training time with Cherries.

There was further concern over his ability to start as the 23-year-old had not featured in any pre-season fixtures with Norwich, his last taste of football winning the under-21s Euros with England at the start of July.

“Over pre-season, I've trained in a load of positions,” Anthony told the Daily Echo.

“I think it's the same for everyone.

“In the game the other day (against FC Lorient), I played at right-back, and it was new for me, but yeah, I was ready to do whatever job I was asked.

“Max came in and he hasn't trained too much, so the cramp was expected.

“I think it's great to have him with us.”

Asked where he would prefer to be playing, Anthony responded: “I'm happy on the pitch.

“It's probably the boring answer.

“I think we have a lot of quality in our squad and I'm sure everyone will be used by the manager and whoever plays will be supported.

“Just trying to help the team any way I can.”

The winger was then probed for the specifics of his role on the flanks, Anthony replied: “I think you can see to get out the pitch and try and create some organized chaos.

“There's a lot of balls from centre-back to in behind.

“I think they just want us to be a real threat in the attacking areas and really make it hard for teams and I think we'll be really effective at that.”

Anthony and Cherries return to action this weekend, when they travel to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Like Cherries, Liverpool started the campaign with a 1-1 draw, being held by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
