ALEX Scott has become the latest recruit at Vitality Stadium after Cherries finally got their man.

Cherries have committed to paying Bristol City £20million with a further £5million in potential bonuses.

Scott signs a five-year contract, tying him down to Cherries until the summer of 2028.

Reportedly, Cherries had seen numerous approaches knocked back across the last two transfer windows, with Robins holding out for a figure of £25million.

Fellow Premier League side Wolves, who have just appointed former Cherries boss Gary O’Neil, pulled out of the race as they continue to contend with financial restrictions.

The 19-year-old becomes Cherries’ fourth new arrival to Vitality Stadium this summer, and sixth signing overall after Hamed Traore’s loan switch was made permanent and Romain Faivre sent on loan to FC Lorient.

Scott was named Championship Young player of the season last term, also named in the division’s team of the season.

Although born in Guernsey, Scott has represented England at under-18, under-19, and under-20 level.

This summer he went away with the Young Lions to compete in the under-20 World Cup, starting three of four games as England were knocked out in the round of 16 by Italy.

In total he has so far represented England 16 times at various youth levels.

Following his release from Southampton as a youngster, Scott spent a year with Cherries’ youth teams on an informal basis, before opting to return home to Guernsey.

There he played for the Channel island’s eponymous non-league side, where he was spotted as a 16-year-old by Bristol City and brought back to England.

Having made his professional debut at 17, Scott played 91 times for the Robins, including 83 matches in England’s second tier, where he has scored five goals and provided seven assists.

Scott has missed Bristol City’s first two games of the season with a knee issue sustained in training, which is now expected to keep the midfielder out for a number of weeks.

That means despite arriving in time for Cherries’ Premier League curtain raiser against West Ham this weekend, Scott will be unavailable.

Having long held an interest in the 19-year-old, Cherries decided to complete the deal despite the injury.

Andoni Iraola has previously shared how he would like to see Cherries sign more than one midfielder this window.

Cherries lost Jefferson Lerma on a free transfer to Crystal Palace following the expiry of the Colombian’s contract.
