NEW Cherries boss Andoni Iraola believes managers should not be signing players, with the head coach believing the recruitment team to “know the market much better than me.”

Appointed as Gary O’Neil’s replacement last month, Iraola was introduced to the press for the first time at Vitality Stadium this afternoon.

Cherries have already made one signing over the summer, with Justin Kluivert arriving in the days following Iraola’s appointment.

Whilst he is not expecting to have the final say on transfers, the Basque boss has made clear the type of player he would like to see join his playing squad.

Asked about transfers, Iraola shared: “For me, it's important they understand, and I'm sure talking to them (the board), they understand the way the team is going into play, the profiles we need, the things we need from the players, from each position.

“And I'm pretty sure they understand and they are trying to do their best.

“They've been working for a lot of months and they know the market much better than me. They know the players much better than me.

“I will give my opinion, I will tell them if I think one player can fit well in our system or not.

“But I don't think managers should be the ones signing the players.”

Whilst he leaves the recruitment to the board, Iraola detailed how he would be looking to get the most out of the players he currently has as he gets to knwow his squad.

He expanded: “I'm much more focused on knowing the players we have - for me, they are new faces.

"We have to know the ones we already have, that we have been training and know where they can play in our system, what position they can occupy to perform.

"And obviously there will be new signings.

"But I'm not so concerned about the new signings because I have a lot of work to do before and I know the club is working on it."
