FORMER Cherries goalkeeper Vince Bartram has taken up a new coaching role at National League Eastleigh.

The Hampshire club, managed by former Cherries player and boss Lee Bradbury, finished ninth in the fifth tier last season.

Experienced goalkeeper Ross Flitney had been coaching at Eastleigh in recent years, but he left the Spitfires this summer, signing for Wimborne Town.

Bartram formerly held coaching roles at Cherries and Portsmouth, before a long stint at Southampton, which ended last year.

Bradbury said: “Vince is very experienced in the football world and in the goalkeeping world.

“He has a lot of experience as a player and as a coach and has been at the top level with Southampton FC.

“I’m absolutely delighted to get him on board and I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table.”

Bartram, 54, made over 350 league appearances throughout his career at the likes of Wolves, Arsenal and Gillingham, before retiring due to injury in 2004.

A large bulk of his appearances, more than 100, came during his spell at Cherries between 1991 and 1994, before he joined the Gunners to play understudy to David Seaman.

Bartram’s son, Miles, spent last season in the Wessex League as goalkeeper for Romsey Town.
