GARY O’Neil has credited Roy Hodgson for getting a “real good tune out of” Crystal Palace.

Cherries visit the Eagles tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 3pm) with the hosts mathematically guaranteed survival this season.

Hodgson returned to Selhurst Park after Palace had endured a 12-game winless streak under previous boss Patrick Vieira.

Offering his thoughts on his counterpart at Palace, O’Neil shared: “Very good side, Roy's done a great job.

“Well organised, only conceded a couple of goals from open play since he's gone in, and you can see why they're a tough team to break down.

“So a lot of work this week on getting ready for Crystal Palace and also trying to add some stuff to what we've been doing to try and move us forward.”

“Fantastic players, real individual talent in there.

“You look at the attacking threat they have, not only on the top line, but from the midfielders as well as (Jeffery) Schlupp, (Wilfried) Zaha, (Michael) Olise.

“(Cheick) Doucoure has been excellent as a sort of holding midfielder since he's come in there.

“They have some real, really good players like the centre-back pairing as well of (Joachim) Andersen and (Marc) Guehi. They're a good side.

“Roy's obviously gone in there, managed to freshen things up a little bit.

“Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes, he knows the group well, as well, from when he was there before and has managed to get a real good tune out of them.

“We'll be in for a tough afternoon. Selhurst Park is never an easy place to go.

“Always an intense atmosphere, but, yeah, a good opportunity for us to win another game of football, hopefully and push onwards up the league.”

Both sides look at their most dangerous on the break, Crystal Palace looking to talisman Wilfried Zaha and the creative Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.

Asked if that would lead to an end-to-end game, O’Neil replied: “I mean, hopefully it isn't, hopefully we can control that a little bit.

“But, they are a threat on counter, definitely.

“Physically they're a very good team, so if the game does get chaotic and open and Zaha, Olise, as I've said, they can hurt you.

“They're strong as well around loose balls and things that drop in the middle of the park, which is one of the main issues we had here, really, that apart from we conceded two soft goals when the game got a little bit messy and scrappy, they seem to grab control of it a little bit.

“So a good performance from us will be needed definitely, because I know they've had a season that they probably feel like they're below where they should be, but a very good side.

“As you can see with the turn in results since Roy's gone back.”
