CHERRIES will look to end their season with silverware tomorrow, with victory in the “prestigious” women’s Hampshire Senior Cup final at Fratton Park.

The competition has been won for 13 years on the trot by Portsmouth, but they will not be present this time around, having lost to Cherries in the semi-finals.

Steve Cuss’s side, who lost in the final to Pompey last year, will instead face Southampton RTC Academy on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

“It was a great day for us and brought about this prestigious final,” Cuss told Cherries’ website, reflecting on the 1-0 win over Portsmouth.

“We’re very much looking forward to playing at Fratton Park. It’s been a season where we’ve been able to play at a couple of nice stadiums.

“We played at St James’ Park at Exeter and at Vitality Stadium in a game which attracted a crowd of more than 3,000. To play at another big stadium is something the players are looking forward to.

“We’ve played Southampton at many different levels through our youth programme and at senior level and they are always tough games.

“The final is against their Regional Talent Centre and they have a lot of talented players. There will be a lot of young players on show because we’re a young side as well.

“This season has provided an opportunity for a lot of our young players to come through and they have gained valuable experience.

“They have done really well to push themselves into the first-team environment. They have performed well and kept their places.

“We’ve been absolutely thrilled with them.

“We try to create a positive environment for them to enjoy their football and allow them to continue to develop. They have flourished.”
