IT IS too early to discuss Mati Vina’s future at Cherries according to boss Gary O’Neil.

The left-back grabbed his second goal in red and black with a fine strike against Chelsea, curling in Cherries’ goal in an eventual 3-1 defeat to the Blues.

Uruguayan international Vina arrived at Vitality Stadium on loan from Serie A outfit Roma on deadline day in January, with Cherries having the option to make the move permanent for a reported €15 million.

Largely limited to substitute appearances when he first joined, Vina has now played nine times for Cherries, starting four of the last five games.

Asked about Vina’s goal, O’Neil told the Daily Echo: “It was nice.

“It was sort of nice to see some stuff that we'd worked on in the week that we thought would be, on the way we progressed the ball up the pitch a few times today.

“There was some big quality in it and obviously an incredible strike from Mati.

“He was a real threat going forward for us, down that left side. I think he had the goal, another shot that he worked Kepa with, big chance, second half where we get him in behind one-v-one.

“He was a real threat going forward.”

Any decision over making the move permanent will be taken at the end of the season, with O’Neil impressed from what he has seen of the 25-year-old offensively.

“I think he's done really well, especially going forward,” continued O’Neil.

“I thought at Tottenham, he gave us something. (Against Chelsea), obviously his goal and the way he kept running forward, big energy.

“He's done very well, but a lot of discussions to be had in the summer around an awful lot of things.

“So very early to sort of discuss what we'll be doing, as in player arrivals and things at this moment.

“So my mind at the moment is on, can we make sure Mati Vina keeps performing like that?

“Can we tidy up a couple of other things with him? As it is with the all the other players.”
