DANIEL Myrmell made a superb start to his Bournemouth Bears career, helping his new club to a pair of wins over Croydon Pirates.

Bournemouth’s Triple-A side roared into life on Sunday with 16-0 and 11-9 victories, Myrmell dominating on the pitching mound.

Myrmell, who has collegiate and international experience, most recently with the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League, allowed only four hits and struck out five batters in five innings pitched.

On the other side, Bears hit well, including a home run from catcher Jose Lopez in the 16-0 thumping at Ferndown.

Game two was much closer, as Croydon fought back with a home run of their own from Dariel Moreta Feliz, and led the scoring early in the game.

However, the Bears were relentless and took the lead in the sixth inning to finish 11-9 for their second win of the season.

Bournemouth’s Single-A side travelled to Pontcanna Fields to face Cardiff Merlins, suffering two defeats.

Game one saw Bournemouth’s Tsz Ming Kung pitch against ex-teammate, Eiki Ito.

The Bears struggled with Ito’s blistering pitching, going scoreless until the fourth inning when rookie Jessie Smith hit a single to centre field and drove in two runs.

Smith then crossed the plate herself from a double from Kung, tying the score 5-5 Despite this, the home team pulled ahead to take the win, 11-5.

The Bears applied pressure in the second game, both on the field and at the plate. Glen Page drove in three runs with his bat, and Nick Hill made three catches in centre field and hit a double to keep the Bears on the heels of the Merlins, finishing with a close 8-6 loss.

The Triple-A Bears host the Bristol Badgers at Ferndown Leisure Centre on Sunday (12pm), with baseball fans more than welcome to watch and support.
