POOLE Town kept their play-off push on track by defeating Hanwell Town 2-0 away from home.

Wes Fogden grabbed his third goal in four games minutes before the break, with Toby Holmes making sure of the result deep into stoppage time.

Boss Tom Killick made two changes to the side held by relegation strugglers Hartley Wintney at the weekend, Toby Holmes and Ade Olumuyiwa dropping out for Luke Holmes and Marcus Daws.

Will Spetch was forced to walk a tightrope for 88 minutes after picking up an early booking, the centre-half fouling Kain Adom on the edge of the area.

Fogden’s curling effort was the game’s first shot, a deflection sending the attempt over the bar.

Luke Cairney was then called into action, first denying Adom before springing back up to deny Tom McElroy on the follow up.

Midway through the first period, Daws rattled the post from a free-kick, the closest either side were to finding an opener.

The Cherries youngster repeated the trick later on in the half, smacking the woodwork for a second time from distance.

Minutes after, Dolphins would have their lead. Daws drove down the flank, before whipping a cross for Fogden to convert and send Poole into the break 1-0 up.

After the restart the away side again had the better chances. Fogden was slipped in on the break, but a last-ditch tackle from Hanwell denied the veteran a chance to double his tally.

The hosts started to pile on the pressure, launching long-throws into the Poole box. Dolphins attempted to alleviate the siege by hitting Hanwell on the break.

That would be the source of their second goal, substitute Toby Holmes converting on the counter after five of the six additional minutes had been played.

Defeat for Swindon Supermarine at Metropolitan Police means Poole now enjoy a six-point gap over their main rivals for the final play-off spot.

Dolphins currently occupy fifth spot, with Supermarine enjoying a game in hand over Poole.

Killick’s charges return to action on Saturday, when they host seventh placed Hayes & Yeading.
