CHERRIES have loaned out youngster Matt Burgess to Slough Town for the rest of the season.

Midfielder Burgess, 19, will link up with the Rebels ahead of their National League South clash with against Dover Athletic on Saturday.

He will join fellow Cherry Will Dennis on loan at Arbour Park, with both youngsters set to remain with Slough, who currently sit 17th, until the end of the campaign.

The Daily Echo understands Burgess had been close to completing a loan switch to Poole Town, before Slough came calling.

Rebels boss Scott Davies told the club’s website: “Matt is a good addition to bolster our midfield.

“He’s already gained valuable experience on loan at Truro City last season which will hold him in good stead. We are delighted to have him with us.”

Burgess was a frequent starter for Cherries’ development squad during their Premier League Cup campaign, advancing through the youth ranks following his arrival from Brighton in 2017.

He recently travelled to Newcastle with the first team for their League Cup tie, taking part in the warm up despite not being named in the matchday squad.

In their statement, Slough thanked Cherries and their loan manager Carl Fletcher who “have been great to deal with”.
