PUNDIT Jermaine Jenas highlighted Cherries’ profligacy in front of goal against Nottingham Forest on Match of the Day, summarizing: “I actually think overall, Forest were probably the better side within the game, but Bournemouth just had the better chances.”

Jaidon Anthony’s first-half opener was cancelled out by former Cherry Sam Surridge seven minutes from time, the 1-1 draw ending a run of six straight defeats for Gary O’Neil’s side.

A former Forest player and a fan of the City Ground outfit, Jenas believed the result to be positive for Cherries, sharing: “I think it was important for Bournemouth, and for Gary O’Neil, to stop the rot.

“I actually think overall, Forest were probably the better side within the game, but Bournemouth just had the better chances.

“Maybe (there is) a little bit of disappointment (for Cherries).

“I think in the wide areas, Ouattara and Zemura were dangerous.”

The former England international went on to highlight the catalogue of chances Cherries generated, first pointing out how debutant Dango Ouattara could have cut the ball back to the awaiting Anthony.

He restarted: “If (Outtara) cuts this one back, he’s got a tap in, Anthony, and he should be cutting that one back.

“He seems more than talented enough to pick him out there.”

Jenas then explained his reasoning for mentioning Jordan Zemura, the wing-back teeing up two gilt-edged chances for Kieffer Moore and Ryan Christie, their headers both missing the target.

“The opposite side, I mentioned Zemura, and what he does”, continued the former Tottenham man.

“For Kieffer Moore, that is what he does, that is his game, middle of the box headers. That should be hitting the back of the net.”

Aside from the game producing Cherries’ first point and goal in the Premier League since November, Jenas believed the increased attacking output to be both positive, and somewhat negative.

He added: “There’s two ways of looking at it.

“From Gary O’Neil’s point of view, these chances haven’t been coming and they’ve been getting beat. Where as today, they were creating them, but they weren’t sticking them in the back of the net.

“Anthony takes his chance really well.

“This is on the back of them having quite a lot of injuries, as well.

“I just felt like they needed to put this game to bed in the first half.

“Because if they didn’t, Forest would come out stronger in the second.

“And that is exactly what happened – Forest were the better team overall, and in the second half they were far superior and got their equaliser.”
