SAM Surridge shared his pre-match premonition he was going to score against Cherries yesterday – stating: “I knew I was going to get a goal, I felt it.”

Cherry academy graduate Surridge popped up in the 84th minute to cancel Jaidon Anthony’s first-half opener to ensure spoils were shared at the Vitality Stadium.

It was the striker’s first Premier League goal in 19 appearances, with the equaliser sending Cherries into the relegation spots for the first time this campaign.

However, he thought his big moment had been ruined by a potential offside.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the match, Surridge revealed: “I knew I was going to get a goal, I felt it.”

“When I was running back, Tatey (Alan Tate) the assistant managed was saying, ‘Nah, it’s offside, get yourself back’, so it ruined it a little bit for me.

“But, it was special. As soon as the referee pointed to the halfway line, yeah, it was good.”

Surridge departed Cherries ahead of the 2021-22 campaign to link up with Stoke City for £5.5million, spending six months with the Potters before joining Forest for a fee believed to be £2.2million in January 2022.

Gary O’Neil briefly worked with the striker, Cherries’ head coach arriving as first team coach in February 2021 under the charge of Jonathan Woodgate.

Asked for his thoughts on Surridge returning to haunt his former side, O’Neil told the Daily Echo: “It doesn’t bother me who scores against us – I’d rather it was no one. Whether it is Sam Surridge, or whoever else it would be – Morgan Gibbs-White – it would still be the same outcome.”

“The fact that it was Sam Surridge doesn’t (bother me). I thought we were going to get away with the offside, it was a tight one."
