CAPTAIN Lloyd Kelly says Cherries “have to change some things asap” as they prepare for a daunting-looking trip to Manchester United tomorrow.

Since returning from the World Cup break, Cherries have failed to find the net in Premier League defeats against Chelsea and Crystal Palace and have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, losing at Newcastle.

There is no time to dwell on the latest disappointment, the 2-0 reverse against Patrick Vieira’s Eagles, as Cherries head to face an in-form United, seeking a first ever win at Old Trafford.

“We’ll use the next couple of days to evaluate where we are at the moment,” Kelly told the Daily Echo, straight after the Palace loss.

“We have to change some things asap really and make sure we put in a performance that puts us in a better position to get a result.”

Asked if he agreed with boss Gary O’Neil that Saturday’s defeat was the worst performance the side have put in under his management, Kelly said: “Yeah. I can’t say anything different.

“And I’m sure the rest of the boys can’t say anything different.

“We know where we have to play to be able to compete in the Premier League and it was nowhere near it.”

Defeat to Palace was particularly galling given the nature of the two goals, both coming from poor marking at corners.

It took to 12 Cherries’ tally of goals conceded from set-pieces this season, the worst record of any top-flight side.

Asked how much of a concern that stat is, Kelly said: “I think it speaks for itself.

“We need to do more work on them. We have been doing work on them.

“Of course, there’s no excuses. It’s down to us to put that in action during the games and during crucial times in a game.”
