MARK Travers revealed Cherries’ upcoming game with Tottenham Hotspur brings back “really good memories”.

Maynooth-born ‘keeper Travers made his senior debut at 19 against Spurs at the tail end of the 2018-19 campaign, being parachuted into the starting XI for the penultimate game of the season.

The Irishman made five saves in the opening 30 minutes, helping his side to go on and eventually win 1-0 thanks to Nathan Ake’s last-minute winner.

Although Travers also featured in the following game, a eight-goal thriller to end the season away at Crystal Palace, the Cherries academy graduate had to wait two seasons and relegation to the Championship for an extended run in the first team.

However, after Scott Parker’s departure after four Premier League games, the 23-year-old has dropped back to the bench, before coming off the bench during the 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Monday, replacing the injured Neto.

With the status of the Brazilian’s injury confirmed, a "long term" hamstring injury according to interim boss Gary O'Neil, Travers will again face Spurs at the Vitality Stadium this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Reflecting on his debut, Travers told the Daily Echo: “Really special debut.

“A few years ago now, but it brings back really good memories.

“See what happens over next few days obviously regarding Neto’s injury, but I'll be ready whatever happens.”

Spurs were in action on Wednesday evening, being held by Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking prior to Spurs’ midweek draw, Travers shared: “They’re very strong, an unbelievable side with unbelievable players, unbelievable manager as well.

“They lost at the weekend so they come into this game trying to give 100 per cent like we will be as well.

“It should be a good game and one that we’ll be really ready for and looking forward to.”
