DAVID Moyes reserved special praise for the work Scott Parker did in getting Cherries promoted back into the Premier League, before adding how Gary O'Neil has done "very well" since replacing him.

O'Neil replaced fellow former West Ham United midfielder Parker, stepping in as interim head coach when the latter was sacked in August, following Cherries' 9-0 defeat at Liverpool.

It brought to and end Parker's 14-month reign at Cherries, in which time he won just over half of his 55 matches in charge, guiding the club to automatic promotion from the Championship.

But, following comments questioning the board's transfer strategy over the summer, the ex-Fulham boss was dismissed just four games into the Premier League campaign.

Since, O'Neil has won two, drawn four and lost just one of his seven matches in interim charge.

He is set to take charge for the eighth time when Cherries head to London Stadium on Monday (8pm) to face Moyes's Hammers.

Asked for his assessment of Cherries under O'Neil, Moyes said: "He's done a very good job. I’ve got to say that Scott Parker did a brilliant job at Bournemouth as well.

"Getting them up into the Premier League is a great achievement.

"Gary has picked it up and taken it on a little bit as well, so he’s done very well.

"It’s not easy to go on long (unbeaten) runs in the Premier League, especially being a new (promoted) club, but they’ve had a really good start to the season."

Cherries currently sit one two points and one place above West Ham in the table.

The last time they visited the east London club for a competitive fixture was Moyes's first game back in charge of the club, in January 2020.

West Ham ran out resounding 4-0 winners in that New Year's Day clash, going on to avoid relegation by five points, with Cherries instead slipping through the trapdoor.

"At that time when we came in, every point was really going to be crucial," Moyes said, reflecting on that contest.

"It was a great start and it was probably a big boost that the players needed as well.

"I have to say what the players have gone on to do in the last three years has been remarkable.

"From that group of players being near relegation, to being a group that has been challenging towards the Champions League (places) for the last couple of years says an awful lot about them - how they’ve changed and the character they have and the resilience."
