POOLE Town’s FA Trophy woes continued at the weekend, with the Dolphins falling to a 2-0 defeat to Winchester City in the third qualifying round.

Dolphins have long struggled in the competition, and for the second consecutive season, they fell at the first hurdle.

With loanees Ade Olumuyiwa and Jake Andrews unavailable, Poole were unable to record a fourth win in a row.

Simba Mlambo grabbed an opener for the hosts against the run of play in the first half, but after falling behind, Poole looked unable to get back into the game.

Former Dolphin Warren Bentley made sure of the result deep into the second half, before a hectic end to the game.

Poole striker Tony Lee saw red after a second booking for venting his frustrations at the refereeing team.

Dolphins were then given the opportunity to spark an unlikely comeback in the 90th minute when they were awarded a penalty.

Substitute Toby Holmes smacked the post from the spot, before the follow up effort was saved by Jordi Valero in the Citizens’ goal.

Despite defeat, Poole receive £625, whilst Winchester earn £2,450 for their efforts.
