PIRATES skipper Danny King is gearing up for a “tense” two meetings against Leicester as the Dorset club’s dreams of a treble of trophies remain alive.

After overcoming Glasgow over two legs 110-69 on aggregate following Sunday’s SGB Championship play-off semi-final second-leg victory at Ashfield, Poole have since announced the dates of the two-legged final against the Lions later this month.

Poole will host Leicester on Friday, October 21, before a trip to Leicester the following night.

Asked about the prospect of facing Stewart Dickson’s side, King told the British Speedway network: “I rode there for a couple of seasons, so it's a track I enjoy.

“They're one of those teams that when they're on form at home, they can be very difficult to beat.

“I feel we've got the team capable to do the job. But we all need to be on form for sure, because it's going to be a tense two meetings.”

Reflecting on the victory over Glasgow, in which he scored eight paid 10 in a 50-39 triumph on the night, the Poole captain said: “We knew we had a good lead coming here, but you can never count your chickens, can you?

“One race at a time, just took it steady and got it across the line.

“They were unlucky losing Tom (Brennan). He's an important member of the team. So it is what it is. It's just speedway and we're pleased to be in the final.”

Pirates are also set to face Redcar over two legs of the Championship Knockout Cup final, as well as competing in the final of the Championship Jubilee League.
