CHERRIES legend Steve Cook has confirmed "plans are underway" for his testimonial to be staged next summer.

Cook spent more than a decade on the south coast, making 388 appearances, before leaving the club in January to join Nottingham Forest.

Speaking after the centre-back's exit, Cherries chief executive Neill Blake said: “Steve is an AFC Bournemouth legend. He has been a key part of this club’s success over the last 10 years and has played a pivotal role in some of the most memorable moments in our history.

“He leaves with our thanks for everything he has done for the club, and our very best wishes for the future.

“We look forward to welcoming him back to host his testimonial later this year.”

However, following both Cherries' and Nottingham Forest's battle for Championship promotion, which ultimately ended with the clubs clinching a return to the top flight, no testimonial was arranged over the summer.

But Cook has now confirmed via social media that there is still every intention for the testimonial to take place.

He wrote: "Delighted to announce that my testimonial plans are underway to be played in the summer of 2023.

"Game and final date to be announce in due course. Excited to welcome back some legends of the club.

"Can’t wait to share the day with the fans, friends and family."

Speaking earlier this year, Cook said: “Really looking forward to bringing back some of the players that had so much success here and didn’t get to give the club and fans a farewell as well.

“Those talks will take place and I am going to have to persuade people to get their boots back on and put on a bit of an exhibition for the fans."
