BEN Greenwood is enjoying ‘every minute’ of being skipper of Cherries’ development side – as well as his purple patch of form in front of goal.

A left-back by trade, Greenwood has notched four goals in his last two appearances, including the winner against Derby County on Friday.

It has been a season of new highs for the 19-year-old, also making his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich City in August.

When asked how the captain’s armband had impacted his development, Greenwood told the Daily Echo: “It’s definitely enhanced my leadership skills.

“I’ve been drip-fed it in the last few years with players going on loan, sometimes I have just had to step up.

“This year I’ve been given the sole responsibility and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I’m thankful to Coops (Shaun Cooper, development squad head coach) for giving it to me.”

The former Poole Town loanee has developed in other areas, as proven by his goalscoring streak.

A hat-trick away at Folland Sports in the Hampshire Senior Cup followed by the strike against Derby comes off the back of extra work on finishing drills.

Asked if he had worked on his shooting, Greenwood replied: “To be fair, I have actually but I’ve been working on my weak-foot finishes, and I dragged the right-foot one!

“This year, adding goals and assists to my game [has been a target], and it’s started to come out in the last couple of games.

“I’ve been working on it endlessly in training, so hopefully, I’ll keep it going.”
